Newark, NJ/Cory Booker's "Brick City" on The Sundance Channel Tonight

</object>

I'm looking forward to seeing this. For someone that grew up in Nutley, NJ, the changes in Newark since Mayer Booker took office are simply miraculous. Not an overstatement. This was a city in need of nurturing and some love - and Cory Booker brings both.

And you can't listen to him without being motivated to be better.

From the NYTimes yesterday:

SUNDAY ROUTINE | CORY A. BOOKER

Exercise, Church, Tweet, Then TiVo

Published: September 18, 2009

There are no days off for Cory A. Booker, the ambitious and peripatetic mayor of Newark, who stars in the Sundance Channel’s documentary series “Brick City,” starting Monday. But

Sundays generally mean no meetings unless he calls them, and often include some down time for a movie date, like one he recently had with Gayle King, a mutual friend of his and Oprah Winfrey’s (he could not recall what they saw). Sundays also mean more time to work out, which along with “eating like a human being” (egg whites, light yogurt) has helped Mr. Booker, 40, lose about 50 pounds over the past year.

Read the rest here.

BODY CLOCK My problem with Sundays, frankly, is that even though I may have more time to sleep, my body still wakes up around 6 o’clock. If I wake up and I’m lying in my bed, getting mad at myself for not being able to sleep even though I’m tired, I will then get out of bed and work out. It will probably involve jogging around the neighborhoods, riding my stationary bike and lifting weights.

IN DEMAND Inevitably, there are events that I’m invited to. There are community events — the Puerto Rican parade, the Dominican parade, the Brazilian festival. There are block parties, there are cultural events, nonprofits have events. There’s church services that I’ll go to, between one and three, sometimes, depending on what’s happening. I have my church that, frankly, my pastor probably wishes I came to more, but I try to visit churches as much as I can.

Izzard completes marathons feat (via BBC News)

Izzard completes marathons feat

An ''exhausted'' Eddie Izzard runs through the finishing line

Comedian Eddie Izzard has completed his endurance feat of 43 marathons in 51 days for charity Sport Relief, finishing in London's Trafalgar Square.

Izzard, who ran at least 27 miles per day and took just one day off per week, covered about 1,100 miles on his route across the UK.

The 47-year-old, who trained for just five weeks for the event, told BBC News he now planned to "sleep for a week".

In 2006, David Walliams swam the English Channel for Sport Relief.

Blisters upon blisters are not very nice. It's the pain. Like the pain from mouth ulcers, it's not a massive area but sharp and quite agonising
Eddie Izzard

Izzard - who ended his mammoth challenge in the pouring rain - said he had been trying to complete his final day's run in under five hours but had failed to do so by 30 seconds.

"I don't know what the hell I was doing at the end but it must have been way faster than I was doing the rest of the time.

"So I feel exhausted now, but you know, it's over."

He added: "Being here is very nice because, when I left here seven-and-a-half weeks ago, there was nothing here, it was just a cold morning and now there's a lot of people here, even in the rain."

The comedian, who has so far raised more than £200,000, was joined by well-wishers for portions of the challenge, which took in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Pretty amazing commitment from Eddie Izzard, who also used Twitter constantly during his effort.

Pay Attention to the Man Behind The (Ad) Curtain: Chase Jarvis Blog

Here we are, already more than half way through our job here. Great stuff today, again working with some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world. This little recap vid, shot at 9pm last night--just before heading back to the villa for some data wrangling--shows me pretty darn tired, but still kicking. I'm on camera with my friend Chris Jerard from Freeskier and Snowboard magazines. Chris is our subject matter expert and snowsports industry liaison.

I feel like we're finally dialing in our separate and additional workflow for sharing this stuff amidst all the other priorities we're balancing. So that should mean that we'll be able to roll some serious outtakes and a wave of more videos here tonight and tomorrow and the next day.

Chase Jarvis, fantastic photographer and author of one of my favorite blogs, has been posting an incredible play by play of a shoot he and his team are on in New Zealand.

Anyone with an interest in photography should check these out (his Facebook page has the most complete coverage). This is the latest in the series and it's a great peak behind the creative curtain of an ad shoot.

Chase Jarvis and his team have really embraced social tools as a way of sharing both what they do as well as the creative process behind it. Another video about the creative process that should be watched is a talk Chase gave to the Art Director's Club of Denver a couple of months ago. Be warned: it will want to make you immediately want to get up and create something.

I Can't Believe Springsteen is 60 This Month

No 60 year old moves like this...

From the NYTimes story on the Kennedy Honors:

Mr. Springsteen released his first album, “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.,” more than 35 years ago. His albums, including “Born to Run,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town” and “Born in the U.S.A.,” have sold some 120 million copies worldwide, and he has won 19mestopics/subjects/g/grammy_awards/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier">Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award for the song “Streets of Philadelphia.”

Now two weeks away from his 60th birthday, he still performs to sold-out arena crowds with his backing group, the E Street Band. In a statement Mr. Springsteen said, “It is a privilege to be recognized in the company of the very best of my fellow artists.”

I love that it's him and Mel Brooks (who I've always felt was overlooked...) this year. And that De Niro guy...
